The majority of Lemongrass essential oil is used for the manufacture of citral, a common ingredient in flavouring and perfumery. In Aromatherapy it is considered beneficial for the digestive, nervous and musculoskeletal systems - particularly connective tissue where it is recommended for sprains and bruises. Topically it may be used in cleansing and toning products due to its astringent and antiseptic properties. Research has also demonstrated that Lemongrass may be an effective insect repellent.
