Manuka is an evergreen shrub native to New Zealand which has a long history of medicinal use. Manuka Honey, produced by bees from Manuka flowers is now highly prized for its well-documented healing properties. In several studies, Manuka oil has been shown to be a powerful natural anti-microbial agent even against formidable bacteria such as MRSA. This is largely thought to be due to certain compounds known as Triketones. Triketones are found in all Manuka oils but are highest in those from trees grown in the East Cape and Nelson regions of New Zealand. This makes it useful topically for bacterial and fungal problems with skin, nails, and feet. Despite it's powerful properties, Manuka oil is also gentle enough to be used neat.
