Almonds are a versatile sweet tasting creamy coloured nut with a thin brown skin and a wonderful buttery flavour. Used often in making nut butter & plant milks, with the ground meal (a.k.a. almond flour) being utilised in gluten-free, paleo, and keto recipes. An excellent source of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, fibre, protein, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, and vitamin E.

Almonds appear to be beneficial in preventing heart disease and balancing cholesterol levels. There are also a number of studies indicating that almonds may be of use in reducing cancer risk, particularly colon cancer. These benefits are thought to be due to their antioxidant flavonoid and amygdalin (laetrile) content. Almonds are high in fibre when the skins are left on, with 4g of fibre in just 1/4 cup. 

1/3 cup serving of almonds contains around 280 calories, 24g fat, 9g protein, and 10g carbohydrate.
